In English, the children have enjoyed listening to the story of ‘The Last Noo-Noo’. This book has given them the opportunity to write in full sentences remembering to use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, finger spaces between each word and a full stop or question mark at the end. They have been using a freeze-frame to act out planting their own object and next week they will complete this unit by writing their own magic tree story. I am very much looking forward to reading these as the children have been very creative in selecting an object to plant.

In Maths, the children have been exploring numbers to ten and beyond. They have used Numicom, bead strings and the tens frame to help them find different ways to make their chosen number.

On Tuesday, the children enjoyed the outreach session from The British Schools’ Museum in Hitchin. They had the opportunity to explore real and replica toys from the past such as a cup and ball, a zoetrope, a kaleidoscope, Jack in the box, a Diablo and many more. The children said:
“It was really good because we got to see what our mummy’s and daddy’s played with in the past.”
“It was great because we got to see toys that we have never seen before.”
“I liked finding out how optical illusions are made.”
“I noticed that the toys in the olden days were made from metal, wood and feathers.”

During RE, the children have been listening to the story of the ‘Presentation’ and learning about Anna and Simeon.  Afterwards, they created lovely pictures using pastels to depict this story.
In PE, the children have enjoyed using parachute and the large apparatus in the hall.

Next week in English, the children will complete their stories. Then, they will take on the role of word detectives to investigate spelling patterns and generate their own spelling rules.
In Maths, the children will be estimating and comparing numbers.
Enjoy the weekend!

Happy New Year to you all!
It was lovely to see the children back and hear them share their wonderful Christmas holidays experiences with each other. They all look well rested, refreshed and ready for the new term ahead.
This week, we spent time completing our topic work and using the iPad to find out about our local area.
Next week, we will begin the new topic on ‘Toys and Games’.
The children have been asked to bring in their favourite toy or game next week. Your child had a list home with them to let them know which day to bring in their toy or game.
To support this topic we have arranged for an outreach session to be delivered by The British Schools Museum in Hitchin. A letter will be sent out next week regarding this activity.
Next week, we will begin our new RE topic on ‘Special People’.
We will be discussing the special people in our family and school community. For homework, the children have been asked to think about the special people in their Church.
In English, we will begin our fiction unit using an enjoyable text called, The Last Noo Noo by Jill Murphy.
In Maths, we will use addition and subtraction to make equivalent values.

Enjoy the weekend!
