What a busy week the children in Year One have had.
In English, the children have enjoyed listening to the story, Class Two at the Zoo. This book has helped them to build new vocabulary and write simple sentences. When writing a sentence the children have been asked to remember four things - capital letter at the beginning of their sentence, finger spaces between words, full stop at the end of their sentence and to read what they have written to ensure that it makes sense.
In Maths, the children have been continuing to use the number line and the 100 square to count on and backwards focussing on, one more and one less. They have also been completing a problem solving activity to make a chair with interlocking cubes and then a table. The children had to think about what their chair would look like, how many cubes they would need and would it fit under the table. I was very impressed with how the children approached the task and as you can see from the photos many of the children succeeded in the challenge.
In RE, the children have been listening to Psalm 63. Afterwards, they had to think about all the things that are needed in a family to show love and care.
In Science, the children have been comparing the seasons of the year and thinking about the different temperatures of the seasons. They enjoyed looking at how their sun dial displayed shadows at different times of the day.
On Wednesday, the children really enjoyed taking part in National Fitness Day to raise awareness of the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles. This was a non-competitive event where the children worked in house teams to participate in a variety of physical activities.
Next week, in English, the children will be listening to the story, Who’s Our New Teacher?
In Maths, the children will be finding doubles of numbers.
In RE, we will be thinking about the family that Jesus grew up in.
In History, we will be discussing the features of a castle and labelling them. This will help us when we begin making our own castle in D and T.
Have a lovely weekend!
