What a busy couple of weeks we have had in Year 1.
In English, the children have been continuing to work on a non-fiction text. They have been labelling diagrams, writing captions and working on writing opening sentences when completing a report. Perhaps when you are sharing a non-fiction text with your child at home you could discuss how the writer of the book has used different layouts to present the information.
In Maths, the children began by measuring the length of objects using non-standard units (uni-fix cubes) and then progressed to using the vocabulary of centimetres when measuring with rulers. This week they have been using adding and subtracting a single-digit number from a 2-digit number.
In Science, the children have been identifying and classifying animals. They have been looking at birds, mammals, reptiles, fish and amphibians and discussing the differences between the groups.
In RE, we have been learning about what happened on Pentecost day and thinking about how the Holy Spirit helped Jesus’ friends. Next week we will begin our new topic on ‘Being Sorry’.
A big thank you for all the wonderful contributions we have had so far whilst learning about ‘Famous People’. The children have really enjoyed sharing their information with each other.
During Art and Design, the children have been learning about the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh. Using pastels, they have created some amazing pictures.
Next week in English, the children will be introduced to a traditional tale from India.
In Maths, the children will continue to use addition and subtraction. They will also be finding 1 and 10 more/1 and 10 less than any number to 100.
Enjoy the weekend!
