This week in Year 1 we have continued to focus on a non-fiction text in English. The children have been finding information about animals and then composing sentences about what they have read.
During our Maths lessons the children have been using their number bonds up to 20 to solve addition and subtraction word problems. Children were encouraged to use Numicon, bead strings and unifix-cubes to support them when solving the problems.
In RE it was lovely to hear about all the different Holydays that the children had researched for homework. In small groups the children had fun using role-play to act out the various Holydays whilst the others guessed which Holyday was being ‘acted out’.
In Science the children enjoyed looking for and observing ‘living things’ in our school environment. They used the iPad’s to photograph their findings which supported discussion when they returned to the classroom.
Thank you very much for all the fruits that were sent into class this week. The children really enjoyed making and tasting their fruit salad. I think we were amazed at how many different countries the fruit had come from and how far it had actually travelled.
In Art the children have been looking at the work of the famous artist, Jackson Pollock. Afterwards, children had the opportunity to use a variety of ‘wheels’ to explore the idea of free expression through art.
On Thursday to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday the children decorated bunting. This bunting will be used in June when as a whole school we will celebrate the Queen’s official birthday.
Next week in English we will be focussing our learning on a non-fiction text. In Maths we will be continuing to use addition and subtraction. In RE we will be finding out about the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Have a lovely weekend!
