In Year 1 over the past couple of weeks we have had a visit from Lily’s dad Mr Korchak. He told us all about the sea creatures that he keeps at home in his aquarium. He showed us different types of coral and told us about their life cycle. The children enjoyed the opportunity to observe a sea snail, hermit crab and coral.
In Science the children have been discussing and comparing similarities and differences between animals and humans.
In RE the children enjoyed learning about Hinduism. They listened to the story of Ganesha, the God with the elephant head. Afterwards, we discussed what the symbols represented and acted out the story.
We have also started our final RE topic on ‘Neighbours’. During this topic we will be looking at the work of CAFOD.
In Maths the children have been focussing on 3D shape and their properties. I am sure you will agree the children made some fabulous models using 3D shapes.
In English the children have been listening to the story of ‘Dear Greenpeace’. This was a great book for inspiring the children to write their own letter to Greenpeace about concerns they had about the sea life in the ocean and environmental issues.
For homework this week the children have been asked to create a mask for ‘Wear it Wild’ day which will we celebrated in school on Friday. There are some ideas for masks and activities available from the ‘Go Wild’ website www.gowild.wwf.org.uk If anybody has a problem completing this task at home then please speak with Mrs Kelly or I during the week.
Enjoy the sunny weekend!
